It was a typical Sunday afternoon along Southern California’s Angeles Crest Highway, until the sudden roar of an engine echoed from inside a mountain tunnel. Moments later, a crimson 2026 Ferrari burst out into the sunlight at extreme speeds, lost control, and slammed headlong into a solid concrete barrier.
A horrific video captured by stunned bystanders shows the immediate aftermath. Shouts of panic ring out as thick smoke and flames rapidly engulf the shattered sports car. In a frantic bid to help, several onlookers rushed toward the burning wreckage, desperately pulling a passenger who had been thrown from the car away from the inferno.
Tragically, the driver was trapped inside. California Highway Patrol later confirmed that the man behind the wheel was 55-year-old Vince Zampella, one of the most celebrated minds in modern video game history. He was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:45 p.m. during what was reported as a test drive. The passenger, whose identity has not yet been publicly released by authorities, was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
