My husband organized a party to celebrate landing a major project… Just as the lobster was being served, a waiter deliberately spilled water on my dress, took me aside, and revealed a shocking secret…

Part 3

Then Adrian laughed.

“This is a private party.”

“Not anymore,” I said.

“In accordance with Article 12 of the bylaws, Evelyn Vale has invoked the founders’ clause. Adrian Vale, your powers as CEO are suspended.”

Celeste stood up. “That clause doesn’t exist.”

“Yes, it does,” Naomi replied. “Her son signed the amended bylaws nine years ago without reading the safeguards intended for the founders.”

I parked Daniel’s car next to the lobster platter. “The auditors have the shell company transfers, the falsified medical records, and the emails exchanged between Adrian, Vanessa, and Martin.”

Vanessa stepped back. “They told me everything was legal.”

Adrian turned to her. “Shut up.”

Daniel entered through the service door, now wearing his employee badge. Two investigators from the economic crimes unit followed him. He pointed at Martin.

“He ordered me to falsify the records.”

Martin’s chair scraped against the floor. “I was acting on Adrian’s instructions.”

Adrian grabbed my arm. “Evelyn, think about our daughter.”

I pulled away. “I thought about her every day. That’s why she’ll never understand that loving someone means giving your name, your work, or your spirit to a man who wants to tear you down.”

He lowered his voice. “We can settle this at home.”

“They fabricated evidence to have me declared unfit for duty.”

“I was protecting the company.”

“No. They stole them.”

Naomi handed the printed transfer receipts to the investigators. The bank had frozen the three fake accounts just minutes before midnight. Harbor Crown’s client was also notified and agreed to keep the contract, provided that Adrian, Vanessa, and Martin were removed.

Harold called for an emergency vote. All the directors who had previously toasted Adrian now voted for his dismissal. Vanessa’s appointment was revoked. Martin was stripped of his position and disbarred.

Céleste pointed a trembling finger at me. “You ungrateful wretch! Without Adrian, no one would even know who you are.”

I turned to face the investors and journalists.

“Harbor Crown’s structural system relies on patent No. 11,804,221,” I declared. “My patent. I developed the financing model. The company’s initial capital came from my trust fund. Adrian was never the founder. He was merely a figurehead.”

The silence was more deafening than the applause.

Investigators arrested Adrian for attempted fraud, conspiracy, and forgery. Martin was arrested next, after trying to destroy his mobile phone. Vanessa burst into tears when the police confiscated the diamond bracelet Adrian had purchased through a shell company.

Céleste sank back into her chair.

Adrian looked at me as they led him away. “You planned this.”

I shook my head. “You planned it. I just read it all.”

Six months later, Adrian pleaded guilty and was sentenced to federal prison. Martin lost his license. Vanessa cooperated, returned the stolen goods, and left the industry. Céleste sold her villa to pay the damages. Under my leadership, construction of Harbor Crown began. I promoted Daniel to Ethics Director and funded his family’s security.

On opening day, my daughter held my hand beneath the towering glass turrets.

“Did you build this, Mom?”

I looked toward the horizon, bright and clear after the rain.

“Yes,” I replied. “And this time, I signed it myself.”
