Pete.
Pete went to the inquest. Pete heard Robert Innes read that statement out loud in a room in 2023.
He knew.
For two years and two months, my husband knew that our son had pulled a child out of that car, and he did not tell me.
I found this out on the Friday, when he came in from work and found me on the floor with the pages round me, and he stood in the doorway and said, “Ah.”
Not what’s that. Ah.
His reason, and I have decided to accept it, is this.
In the November of 2023 I said to him, in the kitchen, that if I ever found out Silas had suffered for one minute at the side of that road I would not be able to carry on. I do not remember saying it. He can tell you what I was wearing.
And what was in that statement was ninety seconds of our son walking, and then sitting down, and then talking to somebody’s daughter, with injuries that a consultant later described to Pete in the corridor as unsurvivable from the moment of impact.
