The office also said it could not disclose what specific tests or studies had been requested because the death investigation is still underway. According to the Medical Examiner, deferred cases can take a few months before an official cause of death is determined.
For now, therefore, the suspected overdose remains part of the police investigation rather than a finalized medical conclusion.

The investigation has not stopped at determining what happened inside the facility. According to the Los Angeles Times, law enforcement sources said police are also attempting to determine where the drugs came from and who may have supplied them.
The Times also reported that there was no indication of foul play at this time, while investigators continued looking into the apparent overdose. No source has publicly identified what substance Presley may have taken.
